What Is A Business Mentor?
By: Lyn Troyer

A mentor is someone who has both knowledge and experience to allow them to help others achieve their goals. They are teachers.

Lessons and exercises are used to help the mentee develop the required skills to move onto the next phase of fulfillment and success.

Mentors play a very important role in the achievement of success. They help people to take that next step with more ease than they would have experienced should they have attempted it on their own.

Mistakes are fine teachers, but having someone help you avoid these mistakes is better. It conserves your time, energy, and financial resources.

Thus for the sake of reducing stress, mentors are very helpful. But one can?t define a mentor as simply a stress reducer. They are also motivators.

To learn the right way to do something is fine but to actually have the will to do it is completely different. Often, we need a surge of enthusiasm to help us on our way.

A mentor is someone who is good at inspiring. Like any good teacher, a mentor can rally excitement around learning and applying knowledge. They don?t do the work for you nor do they do all the thinking, but they are there to help increase your knowledge and skill set so that the tasks you do have a higher level of success, and may even become more enjoyable.

Mentors generally work with specifics. They have knowledge and experience about a specific realm which allows them to answer questions, address concerns, and develop doable steps. It is the facts that mentors are able to create specific steps and help you fine tune your goal that makes them so instrumental to a number of people?s goals.

Many people who have used a mentor, whether it be for business, careers or personal goals have stated that their mentor helped them to focus and stay interested. Mentors are good at helping you see the long term benefits of short term goals.

But besides being able to help someone identify specific steps to reach a goal, and being able to being able to help someone develop effective strategies and skills for reaching goals, a mentor is also a friend.

Over 50% of people consider their mentor as their friend. When you work closely with someone for a common goal you can?t help feeling bonded. Mentees find their mentors to be a motivator, confidant, advisor, councilor, and a sounding board. Developing a friendship with a mentor helps the process but it is also a nice feeling to know that someone is genuinely in your corner.

There are mentors in virtually every niche. They are there to help guide you through the process of obtaining your goal and success.

They help reduce time consuming and costly mistakes and help you to remain focused and motivated. Overall, their purpose is to make sure you have more knowledge and skills so you can succeed.
